About CITB
CITB is the industry training board for the construction sector in England, Scotland, and Wales. It’s our job to help the construction industry attract talent and to support skills development, to build a better Britain.
We are an executive non-departmental public body in charge of our budget and activities. Sponsored by the Department for Education, we are also accountable to government ministers, and ultimately Parliament.

The CITB Upskill Portal - skilling the construction workforce in the UK
CITB partnered with PowerHouse Hub back in 2019 for the delivery of their online training portal to the UK construction sector. Over the past 5 years, we have continued to develop and extend the functionality of their platform to delivered on their vision to support skills development for the sector.
CITB has licensed the PowerHouse Upskill platform to plan, build and deliver the library of CITB eCourses to the construction industry.
The CITB subject matter experts and content developers use the PowerHouse Content Publisher to build their own eCourses and Training Plans. Their members logon to the platform, via all connected devices, to complete their selection of online courses.
Our developers collaborated with the CITB to integrate the PowerHouse Upskill platform with the Pearson Vue platform to deliver invigilated assessments and tests for their members.
Our developers also integrated the a dedicated Reporting File transfer for CITB via FTP.
CITB provide a range of free and paid eCourses to their stakeholders and we introduced the concept of paid course vouchers, customisable discount codes and a comprehensive Course Catalogue for their content.
In 2024, our team continues to enhance the CITB portal with the introduction of xAPI. The Experience API (xAPI) is an e-learning software specification that records and tracks various types of learning experiences for learning systems. Learning experiences are recorded in a Learning Record Store, which can exist within traditional learning management systems or on their own.
What did PowerHouse Hub deliver
PowerHouse Hub designed and deployed a customised eLearning portal for CITB with secure hosting on AWS servers in London, UK.
The PowerHouse Hub software developers enhanced the platform to allow CITB to offer invigilated examinations (via integration with Pearson Vue), pre-paid course vouchers, discount codes and a dedicated Course Catalogue with eCommerce to automate registrations, payments, invoices and refunds.
Our developers are finalising the ability for CITB to offer courses and training from external accredited providers using the xAPI to manage the content and reporting.
The CITB Portal also features customised business groups with advanced reporting (including FTP).
Our design team customised the PowerHouse Upskill platform to feature the CITB stylesheets, branding and styles.
Our training team provided extensive training to the CITB administrators and subject matter experts to allow the to plan, build and publish interactive online CPD courses with text, images, video and multimedia.
Our training included instruction on the Learning Plan Manager to build sequential eLearning programs with prerequisite online courses.
